What is the law in England regarding older women/men being intimant with much younger people? Statutory rape?

I'm just curious what the laws are there. Here in the US we've had a couple of cases where teachers in their 20s have had relations with boys 15, 16, etc. and have been arrested and sent to jail, even though it was consensual. This is vice versa also, older men with young women under a certain age.

I know this is way after the fact and probably was not public at the time so nothing can be done now but I read an article in a magazine, not a rag mag either, that Daniel Radcliff stated he lost his virginity at age 16 with a much older woman on set. Everyone was "guessing" that it was a make up artist, and they named her and printed her photo, who was 23 or so at the time.

If this was public knowledge at the time, could she have been arrested?|||No, she couldn't have been arrested. In England, and the whole of Britain, you can legally have sex at 16.

Since they were both 16 or older, it is not illegal. If she was in a position of trust, such as a doctor, teacher, or carer then it would have been illegal to have sex with someone under the age of 18. She wasn't in that position, so it's not against the law, therefore she couldn't be arrested for it.

|||Sasha is right.

The age of consent in the UK is 16 - and it wouldn't matter if their partner was 23 - or 33, 43, 53 etc.
